Dear Friend,
In June of 1967 I was looking forward to my graduation from Souderton High School when regular radio broadcasts of my favorite music were interrupted by reports of war breaking out in the Middle East. Suddenly, the topic of conversation among my classmates changed from how we were going to celebrate graduation, our summer plans, and where we were going to college in the fall, to the conflict between Israel and three of her perennial enemies: Egypt, Syria, and Jordan.
I was a new Christian and knew virtually nothing about the Bible and its teaching about end times, except that “the end of the world” involved war in the Middle East and a battle called Armageddon. Many of us were facing the prospect of fighting in Vietnam, and now we began to wonder if the world would end before we even got there!
So, we were relieved when, six days later, the war was over and Israel claimed victory. Even my classmates and I, naïve and uninformed as we were, thought that was an amazingly short war, given what we considered to be its apocalyptic dimensions.
It is hard to believe that Israel’s Six Day War (June 5-10, 1967) took place forty-one years ago. I know a little more now about Bible prophecy and everything I’ve learned has taught me that Israel is still surrounded by enemies bent on her destruction; that, though she yearns for peace, Armageddon still looms in her future, and that her only hope is in the Lord.
It continues to be, as it has been since 1944 (before the modern state of Israel was born), the passion of Hebrew Christian Fellowship to point Jewish people to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and the eternal salvation He has provided through the Messiah who laid down His life as an atonement for the sins of the world. It may be trite, but it is still true: We don’t know all that the future holds, but we do know Who holds all the future.
May God richly bless you and yours as you place your life in His loving hands.
Sincerely in Messiah Jesus,
Rev. Roger L. Wambold,
